Deploying Microsoft Office 2007

Step 1: Copy the contents of your Office disc to a directory on your computer or on a file server

Step 2: Run the Office Customization Tool

From within the setup directory, run

Setup.exe /admin

The Office Customization Tool will be opened.

More information on the Office Customization Tool.

Step 3: Create your MSP file within the Office Customization Tool

This is where you will customize your desired Office configuration by selecting which components are installed, Outlook settings, etc.

When you have finished your customizations save your work as an MSP file. Make certain to put your file in the same directory as the SETUP.EXE file.

Step 4: Set install options

Check the Include entire directory box and for the command line be sure to enter the following:

/adminfile mysetup.msp

Use the name of the MSP file you created with the Office Customization Tool.

Step 5: Select computers to receive deployment

In the Targets pane enter the name(s) of your target computers. You may also select targets via Active Directory Organization Units (OU), Admin Arsenal Collections, .csv, .txt or .aatarget files.

Step 6: Deploy

Deploy and watch the magic. Office can take some time to install, depending on the speed of the computers and the connection.

Is anyone else having issues deploying Office 2007 using the above guide? My install fails with the following error:- File not found on target computer.

Which directory is your MSP file that you created using the OCT (Office Customization Tool)? I've had the most success by keeping mine in the same directory as the setup.exe.

You could also try using the full path name: /adminfile "c:\office2007\cust-office.MSP"

I'm also getting the same error when trying to deploy MS Office 2007.  "File not found on target computer". It seems to copy the copy over the directory successfully but then immediately goes to "Cleanup" and then the error message. The MSP file is located in the same directory as the setup.exe.

For the Installer File I'm using the setup.exe correct? Then for the Command Line I am using /adminfile and the path to the MSP file created using the OCT (/adminfile Office2007_MSI.MSP). I tried the full path to the file as well but no joy.

    Maybe I'm missing something?

Thanks for a great tool guys...appreciate the help.

I had the same issues, the install would either error out or time out for every variation I used.

And then it hit me (sound of palm smacking forehead), prior to PDQ Deploy we initiated the customized MOS install using a batch script with the command exactly like this how-to describes.  So I just added an installer step in stead of a CLI step and selected the MOS_Install.bat located in the directory with the msp.

After that the install took off and ran just fine... BUT it still hangs after the install completes, and I believe it's due to the user prompt at completion because Microsoft really wants everyone to check out MSO online.

    ...forgot 1 detail:

SO then I edited my msp to run the install with no display and set the suppress modal option since we were using it for unattended installs now, and that did the trick.

It seems the crucial bit is in setting these installation parameters, which displayed in the screenshots, but not specified in the instructions.
