Remote Process Exceeded Timeout for Completion

Description

The remote process ran longer than the allotted timeout.

Possible Causes

The application set a timeout which was exceeded by the remote process. It's possible that the remote process is hung or is running too slowly.

Recommended Fix

Extend the timeout or determine what is causing the process to hang.

I have a feature request. If you are adding an Action that includes a large library of files, could you add a popup that warns the user that they may want to increase this timeout limit?

I was deploying a custom MSI with 12GB of cab files and it was literally 95% of the way done when this timeout hit me. I just saturated our network with over 350GB of data for nothing.

    Erik,

That's a good idea.  We've added it to the roadmap.  Another idea is to not include the file copy in the timeout, only in the running of the installer.

If I extend the time, does that proactively apply to current deployments or only new deployments? I had a 120 minute timeout and it is quickly approaching that time (LAN bandwidth is being saturated and taking longer than anticipated to pull the cab files).

It currently only affects new deployments, but it sounds like a useful feature to have it also apply to running deployments.

You can extend the timeout in the Deployments timeout.

    Hi,

im getting this error when trying to uninstall Adobe CS6, is there any way to stop this happening?

    Hi Jacob,

If you are getting this error then you should look at a few possible.

    1) The incorrect parameters are being passed and this causes the installation to hang. Since, by default, deployments are performed silently no user will see the error message but the installation process is still "showing" the message and waiting for the window to be closed. This is the most common reason for timing out during a deployment. To find out if this is the issue run the installation on a machine using the same command line and parameters that PDQ Deploy is using. Since you'd be doing this manually you would see if there were any windows that pop up displaying an error.

    2) The product you are deploying is legitimately timing out. The default timeout is 60 minutes which should be good enough for almost anything except for huge applications or service packs. If this is the case (and you are certain you are running the correct silent parameters) then you should increase the Timeout for this package. Don't do this unless you can verify that it actually is installing the program before it times out.
